Scheduling, Organization, and Time Management Workshop
Instructor: Kadijah Kastriba
Planning according to the Sunnah of the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wasallam
During the life of the Prophet Muhammad, sallallahu alayhi wasallam, he often spoke with his companions on the importance of making plans. He stressed, the importance of being organized not only on religious deed, but also on our worldly demands. Sahiih Bukhari reports that the Messenger, sallallahu alayhi wasallam, said:
Even when the Day of Judgement is about to happen, and there is a little sprout (seedling) in your hand, you should continue to plant it.
Bukhari and Ahmad.
For more about the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wasallam’s methods, please read Planning in Islam.
1. Workshop Objectives
This workshop is to aid you in planning and achieving your goals in a manner that reflects Islamic principles, insha Allah. The hope is that when you finish with this program, you will have the tools and knowledge to plan your day effectively and be able to make long-term goals. Part of this program will focus on preparations for the hereafter. As a believer, our ultimate goal should be to meet Allah, subhana wa ta’ala. Whether you are learning to recite His Holy Book, the Quran, or managing your daily chores, outlining our time is a life skill that is invaluable and full of barakah. Please make the intention to have the mindset that we are doing this program as a form of worship. Throughout this workshop, we will remember Allah, subhana wa ta’ala, and follow the example of his beloved Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wasallam.
By the end of the workshop, you should know:
- How to Make a Weekly Plan
- How to set Goals Like a Gardner
- How to use a Block Schedule
- How to take greatest advantage of Classes and Lectures
- How to add extra forms of Ibadah into your daily routine
2. Format and Procedures:
This workshop will consist of a weekly class that will have specific topics. The first topic relates specifically to planning your weekly schedule. After that, we will jump right into “How to Set Goals Like a Gardner” and block scheduling. Each following lesson will build on these principles and take guidance from various Islamic sources. I will reference books such as The Ideal Muslimah by Dr. Muhammad Ali al-Hashimi, video series such as Yaqeen Institute’s Habits to Win with Dr. Tesneem Alkiek, and principles and habits learned from The Productive Muslim website. At times, other resources will be used and all resources will be sited and provided on the sistersshareislam.com website.
My qualifications to teach this workshop come from many years of experience as an office manager and a student of behavioral economics. Basically, that means I have been organizing schedules and studying human motivation for a long time. I have used many of these techniques for years and can provide you with recommendations for tools to add to your personal toolbox. Along with the Islamic sources mentioned above, this will be a complete program for your worldly and spiritual productivity needs, insha Allah.
While I encourage you to attend every workshop, I have set this workshop up so that every class is its own topic. While many of these principles build on each other, it is possible to catch up if you miss something. My sincerest hope is that when we finish this workshop, anyone who has attended the entire series will use the techniques learned during each of the lessons effectively. Not only that, they will be able to share these skills with others.
